Personal Philosophy
Always keep in mind that nothing good comes easily. It takes a positive mental attitude to tackle problems of any standard effectively. Your ability and efforts you put into the work and trying your best to persevere to the end will determine the heights you want to attain. Know for a fact that, “The Master was once an Apprentice.” Never should anyone be discouraged; He who meets a fight and runs, lives to fight it another day. All we have to do is “TO PLAY ACCORDING TO THE RULES OF THE GAME.” By giving it constant practicing, we will master the concepts and apply them effectively. Be patient during the learning process and persevere to the end. Above all, YOU CAN NEVER, NEVER QUIT. I am here to help you become successful in Mathematics as you are here to learn. It is important to remember that we have a wide range of abilities in this course. To receive respect, you must show respect. I will respect you. I expect you to respect others and me. Let us be polite to all people. Listen carefully – Do not interrupt the teacher or other students. Foul language, rudeness and disrespect in class will not be tolerated. We are been made for each other; let us hold one another to grow strong.

I. Rationale / Course Goals
The purpose of this course is to introduce Mathematical fields of concepts to students. This, in turn, should help build the analytical minds of the student and also help them to think critically before taking any decisions. It should build the confidence levels and boosts student morals for everyday life. The learning of these concepts should be easier and fun. The student should be in a position to learn theories associated with this course and figure out how the learnt theories connect with real life applications. This course is not just to display a proof of theories but how the proof is constructed.

II. Course Description
The course aims to introduce students to some fundamental concepts and techniques of mathematics particularly in those areas most relevant to computer Science. Topics to be covered include: formal mathematical notations, Integers, fundamental properties of integers, congruence of integers and operations on integers, modular arithmetic; rational numbers, real numbers, prime numbers, divisibility (GCD & LCM), mathematical induction and other proof techniques. Other topics include: Bases, Binary/Octal/Hexadecimal numbers, data representation, addressing, Instructions, Permutations & Combinations, algebraic notation, logarithms and other pre – computer calculating aids.

The student should at the end of the course have an understanding and appreciation of the importance of the study of this course and apply them in their real life situations. Emphasis will not be placed on memorizing formulas. Instead, it would be placed on applying the course...
