Does human behavior have genetic component? The answer to that question is controversial in part because ethical and legal issues make controlled studies of human behavior difficult to devise.  However, the evidence for a genetic component in human behavior is overwhelming in spite of that limitation. This essay is based on article written by Steven Pinker, Are your Genes To Blame? Personal traits and heredity are two important factors, which determine the character of people. It became a hot topic of debate since long time that, which one over weighs the other, nature or nurture. In my opinion, the environment and experiences, not merely genes mold the character of an individual.  

Genetics is the study of how traits are passed from parent to child. The information that children get from their parents is contained in chemical packets of information called genes. Variations in human behavior are seen every day. Often people are kind and thoughtful. Sometimes people behave in ways that are considered antisocial or hurtful to themselves. Behavioral genetics is a branch of science that tries to find out what role inherited factors play in how people act and what kinds of genes may lead to different patterns of behavior. Mr. Pinker wrote in his essay that genes can affect behavior and mental life. Identical twins separated at birth are similar in their intellectual talents, their personality traits and average level of lifelong happiness.  But it is scientifically proven that, though the characters are transmitted through genes, most of the traits are acquired during their life. It is evident that, the twin who is brought up in a city became open minded, temperamental and is adapted with the city life. At the same time, the other one in the countryside was introverted, hardworking and disciplined. These changes are explained by the influence of the environment.
