Gun Control-Affirmative

America was founded on basic fundamental rights that are to govern a civilized society. When those rights are challenged by those same citizens, reform is imminent and necessary. As stated in the second amendment of the United States constitution, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”. Enforced regulation, improvements in the law, will bring about the type of life all Americans would like to be able to lead without the fears that presents itself in today’s society.

The implementation of the second amendment serves as a means to protect oneself against governmental tyranny. Gun ownership gives citizens the power to check governmental and police abuses. Due to increased violation of this very amendment citizens have allowed for the second amendment to be under scrutiny for further adjustments. Why should certain rights be under stricter governmental control without completely taking those rights away? People who abuse those rights make it difficult for the law abiding citizens to lead lives with less fear. Stricter laws and regulations will decrease the number of crimes. A survey taken in 2010 shows that Roughly 16,272 murders were committed in the United States. Of these, about 10,886 or 67% were committed with firearms. As of 2012 neighborhoods have seen an increase in crime rates in the States that allow for concealed permit handgun holders. A recent incident involving two neighbors involved in a shooting where both individuals were killed by the other in a confrontation. Both had the right to carry a concealed weapon and both died by that same right.
