How accurate is it to say that the growth of reformist groups in the years from 1881 was the main cause of the 1905 revolution?

In some ways it is accurate to say that the growth of reformist groups in the years from 1881 was a significant cause of the 1905 revolution because they stirred up discontent amongst industrial workers and peasants. The social revolutionaries’ party was formed from ‘the peoples will’. These were a radical party that came around in the 1860’s. They split from the peoples will to form the SR. The majority of the SR consisted of the educated middle class; their aims were for the control of Russia to be in the hands of the people. Another reformist group is the Social Democrats Party that was also formed from the peoples will. The SD wanted the idea of Marxism to become Russia’s future; they wanted industrialisation to occur so that Marxism could be brought about. Lenin wanted a planned revolution which was not the views of many others in the party so this formed a split amongst the party. The final large radicalism that formed in Russia from 1881 was the idea of liberalism. This party was also made up of the educated middle class such as lawyers, doctors, professors and teachers. Along with the educated middle class, there were many other groups that fell under liberalism e.g. the octobrists (who wanted an elected government with the tsar sharing power), Zemstva (were elected officials across Russia), Union of Liberation (who wanted democracy based on Britain’s way of government) and Kadets (who were much more radical when it came to reform and revolution). Throughout many years the social democrats and social revolutionaries had been repressed and wanted freedom. These radical extremist groups were repressed by the Okhrana; they wanted to cut down the amount of opposition.
