Title: RockSim and Electronic Altimeter Measurement Techniques

Launch a smaller rocket to learn how to compare RockSim predictions (computer based) to an actual instrument measurement carried by the rocket (Electronic Altimeter).
This Lab shows how better the electronic measurement real time accounts for environmental and physical conditions during flight that amore accurate.
Also this illustrates why Rockets in the real world of rocketry use telemetry/instruments to increase the accuracy (and are used to calibrate the Simulations)
Learn to use trigonometry techniques programmed in EXCEL for calculating engineering type formulas to determine the altitude of an actual flight of a Level 2 rocket that the students have built in the Lab. A 2-angle (observer) technique will be used as taught in previous Lab to get the observed altitude.
A characteristic RockSim simulation will be used to set a simulated benchmark and a flown altimeter will be flown and that data will be used for a comparison to the 2-observer calculation performed from the observed angles at Dyer Park.
First Fly TooBoh Rocket in RockSim and then Fly it in Ball Field 1.RockSim Calculations
1.Pull up TooBoh Rocket in RockSim
2.Install A8-3 Motor (A8 with 3 sec delay) or B6-6 Motor (B6 with 6 sec delay) 1.Choice will vary based on day of launch expected conditions (Winds?) 3.Fly off in RockSim
4.Record Results for:
1.Apogee (Max Altitude), Acceleration, Max velocity, Thrust Time, etc As Shown in Plot (NEXT CHART) 5.We will compare Altimeter-2 Results to these for how RockSim differs from Altimeter Accuracy 2.Fly TooBoh with A8-3 or B6-6 in Ball field and record Data for Each Student 3.Each Student Writes up Lab Report per comparing our in Lab RockSim flight of TooBoh to their Flight in the Ball Field 4.Lab needs a recorder to get data on a sheet for students to use for their rocket flight Example of the Data sheet is in Lab Lesson that will have each person’s Data from Altimeter on it……
