The beast inside us
Every man has a savage inside him; men show their inner human nature. Lord of the flies written by Golding writes the cause and effect of human behavior during survival and the human defect back to human nature. This book is about a group of children that where in an airplane crash into a deserted island explains how civilized society can change when a group of people experience differences, desperation and power struggle. When the children are conflicted to decide and mend their differences whether make a shelter and try to survive, behave as a civilized society and try to be rescued. Or killing and hunting which they will be induced to choose savagery, leaving sophistication behind. Ralph the older child of the group, stands out and decides to at least try to be rescued. He starts to show some power and decision; making the boys obey him. "All this I meant to say. Now I've said it. You voted me for chief. Now you do what I say." They quieted, slowly, and at last were seated again. Ralph dropped down and spoke in his ordinary voice. (Golding,58-59) William Golding tries to make an importance on how humanity as in the book, pleas for power but also how humans are willing of anything to get it. Children change back to their natural behavior as animals to get what they want since of desperation. Another child of the group, Jack wants power and starts well. "We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English, and the English are best at everything." (Golding, 192) However things got out of control, children start to show their power desire. Jack is arguing with Ralph who should be leader and later their primitivism shows. "I ought to be chief," said Jack with simple arrogance, "because I'm chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp." (Golding, 228-30) Jack makes the kids rebel and demonstrate their inner savagery by hunting and forgetting their moral values. This is shown as a...
