No great discoveries in history every made, without the intervention of this mystical ray we call Mathematics. Einstein in his general relativity theory, to prove that the path of a ray of light, in the presence of a gravitational field, is curved and never straight used intensely the non-Euclidean geometry. The renaissance artists used Geometric principles passionately in their important paintings such as The Disputation of the Sacrament, by Raphael and the famous Mona Lisa of Leonardo. Not only in art but mostly in architect from the early days of the Egyptians and Babylon’s and the ingenuity the Pyramids were constructed with.

Even the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson structured it on Geometric Euclidian logic which is what gives it much of its power as a defense of liberty. He used reason to defend liberty, he used logic to define equality. For me, that makes Jefferson a mathematical genius.

The history of mathematics is nearly as old as humanity itself. Since antiquity, mathematics has been fundamental to advances in science, engineering, and philosophy. It has evolved from simple counting, measurement and calculation, and the systematic study of the shapes and motions of physical objects, through the application of abstraction, imagination and logic, to the broad, complex and often abstract discipline we know today.

Prehistoric Mathematics
The oldest known possibly mathematical object is the Lebombo bone, discovered in the Lebombo mountains of Swaziland and dated to approximately 35,000 BC. Do any of us realize the importance of maths in our daily life? This is a subject that is applied to every field and profession. Without the application of maths, no field or profession is complete. To help us realize this why don’t we imagine a world without maths?
Imagine living your days without a watch and a calendar. Both the watch and the calendar use numbers, the most basic and important ofmathematic characters. How would you know the time of the day? Wouldn’t you miss your own birthday without a calendar?
Consider this, you go to a shop to buy something but since this is a world without maths, you don’t know what money is, you don’t know measurements. So what do you do?
Whether it is a Zoologist assessing the number of animal species on earth or a doctor checking your heartbeat they have to know how to count. Without mathematics an engineer cannot build a bridge. A quantity checker chemist cannot prepare medicines if he cannot accurately measure the quantity of each chemical.
We wouldn’t have had markets and businesses without math as the world of trade runs on money. And as a country’s development depends heavily on its economic growth, wouldn’t that be a problem?

Even though Mathematics undoubtedly has universal applications to life and is an essential tool
in science, technology, economics, business, commerce and of course in computer design and
functioning there is a general tendency for people to shy away from it for various reasons-some
feel it is too difficult while others do not see its practical connection to everyday life.
Consequently, we find just a small number of people who pursue this fascinating subject and
the end result is that there is always only a small core of brilliant or good mathematicians which

Mathematics is an important field of study. Mathematics is essential as it helps in developing lots of realistic skills, in fact study of mathematics itself include the concepts related to the routine lives of human. It not only develops mathematical skills and concepts, it also helps in developing the attitudes, interest, and appreciation and provides opportunities to develop one’s own thinking. So, mathematics is undoubtedly a discipline which is imperative to know and study. Figure 1 clearly specifies all the skills that are developed by the mathematics. Mathematics starts from simple things and linear thinking that lead towards the more complex things and higher order thinking skills. Where to go for shopping, choosing a shampoo or planning a holiday, all these things of our daily routine has something in common-its maths. Numerical and logical thinking plays a vital part in each of these every day activities. A good understanding of maths is essential for making sense of all the numbers and problems life throws at us. Many restaurants closes down within one year of their opening because of poor mathematical planning. It’s almost impossible to get through a day without using maths in one way or another.
