I am so very proud to be able to share aspects of my life that are not apparent from my academic record. After being encouraged to pursue my degree by both friends and family, I found that going back to school is a character-defining time in my life, causing me to face many challenges such as financial hardship and manage responsibilities associated with family and school. I am a single mom with four children and I am inspired not only by them but by the amazing nurses I work with every day. I am eager to pursue nursing as a life changing career in order to contribute to the welfare of others. My ultimate goal is to become a nurse practitioner, which I hope to achieve with further training. For the past ten years I have been working in the operating room as a surgical technician. Throughout this time I have gained various caring skills working in both a hospital and outpatient surgery center, which has also improved my people skills and how I interact with others. I have a genuine interest in all of my patient's quality of life and always aim to give one hundred percent towards this. I am positive that these skills and characteristics would be of benefit when training and working as a nurse. Nursing is a profession where the primary aim is providing indiscriminate care to the patient, which entails both physical and emotional support. Secondary to the patient care, family involvement is a large factor. Providing emotional support to both patient and family in times of distress is one of the many skills required. I also was granted the blessing of working with some exceptional nurses that really care for their patients; Nurses that do everything in their power to make a patient feel at ease both emotionally and physically. That is what I hope to be able to do: provide extraordinary care every day. I hope that someday I can be an inspiration to others to strive for a higher level of care just as those I look up to are for me. Nursing is a very challenging and...
