ABOUT IFC
IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector. We help developing countries achieve sustainable growth by financing private sector investment, mobilizing capital in international financial markets, and providing advisory services to businesses and governments. We play a catalytic role by demonstrating the profitability of investments in emerging markets. Established in 1956, IFC is owned by 184 member countries, a group that collectively determines our policies. Our work in more than 100 countries allows companies and financial institutions in emerging markets to create jobs, generate tax revenues, improve corporate governance and environmental performance, and contribute to their local communities. IFC’s vision is that people should have the opportunity to escape poverty and improve their lives.

In 2007 and 2010, two record-breaking IDA replenishments raised more than $90 billion. In 2010, shareholders backed the IBRD’s first capital increase in more than 20 years. Today, we have a well-resourced Bank with a triple-A rating. We have been modernizing multilateralism for a world economy with multiple poles of growth, and democratizing development through greater openness and accountability, sharing knowledge and information. We are laying the foundations for expanding social accountability, fighting corruption, and building...
