In the process of preparing this assignment I received many knowledge about overall development condition of Bangladesh.

First of all, I am very much grateful to Almighty god who gave blessings, courage and ability to prepare this assignment. I am very much grateful to Ms. Gaylan Peyari Tarannum Danna, Assistant Professor, Department of Population Sciences, University of Dhaka, for guiding me to gather knowledge. I am also highly indebted to her for his scholarly and constructive suggestion which was of much assistance to prepare this assignment on “Sustainable Development; It’s Necessity In Bangladesh”.

This assignment is not free from limitations. There might still be some minor errors despite my utmost care. I do apologize for this.


Introduction: Sustainable development refers that, the development which occurring or developing the conditions and that development is helpful for us as well as our future generations. A development which will be sustain or which consequences will be sustain or stay till future generation‟s need with developing the present condition, is sustainable development. In the Bangladesh context, sustainable development included economy, social, environment concept which are refers the whole development maters of Bangladesh. This paper illustrate about the sustainable development and it‟s necessity in Bangladesh. All are illustrated on the below.

Sustainable Development:
The word sustain indicated that, containing something. So, sustainable development refers those developments which containing the development condition not only for current generation but also for future. With the broad sense it can be say that;

Sustainable development is a pattern of economic growth in which resource use aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment, economy, manpower, community so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for future generations. In 1987, the United Nations released the Brundtland Report, which included what is now one of the most widely recognized definitions: "Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

By Robert W. Kates, Thomas M. Parris, and Anthony A. Leiserowitz “Humanity has the ability to make development sustainable to ensure that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” With these definitions finally it can be summaries that, Sustainable Development is a development which is containing the objects of human needs and this development will be containing the objects of next generation human needs by developing and preserving nature, economy, society, culture, resources.

If we want to evaluate, analysis or interpreting something; first of all we have to know the history of those concepts. So the history of sustainable development is illustrated on below.

How the concept of sustainable development emerged:
The history of the concept of sustainability is older. In 400 BCE, Aristotle referred to a similar Greek concept in talking about household economics. This Greek household concept differed from modern ones in that the household had to be self-sustaining at least to a certain extent and could not just be consumption oriented.

The concept of sustainable development was originally synonymous with that of sustainability and is often still used in that way. Both terms derive from the older forestry term "Sustained...
